Jyoti Community Development Service Nepal (JCDSN) conducted its Goat Lending Program on October 27, 2026, in Madi Municipality Ward No. 6 and Bharatpur Metropolitan City Ward No. 28, Chitwan, Nepal. The program aims to strengthen the livelihoods of economically disadvantaged and vulnerable families by creating sustainable income-generating opportunities through goat farming.
The goat distribution program at Madi Municipality Ward No. 6 was formally inaugurated by the Chairperson of Madi Municipality Ward No. 6, who initiated the distribution process. The program was conducted with an emphasis on fairness, transparency and accountability. Each goat was assigned a unique identification number and a random lottery system was used to allocate goats to beneficiaries to ensure an impartial and transparent distribution process.
JCDSN's Goat Lending Program follows a revolving livestock support model designed to extend livelihood opportunities to more families over time. Under this approach, selected beneficiaries receive goats to raise and breed. According to the agreed program conditions, beneficiaries return a 4–5-month-old female goat kid to JCDSN after breeding. The returned goats can then be provided to other eligible families, thus allowing the program's benefits to reach additional households. Beneficiaries can retain the remaining offspring and raise or sell goats to support their household income, in accordance with the program's terms. This approach is intended to promote sustainable livestock farming, strengthen household economic security and encourage shared responsibility among participating families.
Through this initiative, JCDSN seeks to support income generation, women's empowerment and the economic resilience of vulnerable households. By creating opportunities for self-employment and sustainable livelihoods, the program is also expected to help reduce economic vulnerability that can expose individuals and families to exploitation and human trafficking.
The initiative reflects JCDSN's continued commitment to community development, economic empowerment and the promotion of safer and more resilient communities.
Jyoti Community Development Service Nepal (JCDSN) remains committed to working with communities and local stakeholders to expand sustainable livelihood opportunities and improve the well-being of disadvantaged families.
